Aaron's Blessing (OH)
The LORD instructs Moses to tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel. This blessing ties back into the LORD’s promise to their father, Abraham, in Genesis: “I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great (famous), and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you” (Gen. 12:2-3). This blessing also ties into a future blessing and sending of God’s people, that is now known as “The Great Commission.” Just as the LORD places His Name upon the people of Israel (Num. 6:7), so Jesus puts His name upon His disciples and places His Spirit within them (they become the “New Israel”), that they might be a blessing to all the families of the earth as they go and share the Good News. Today, we, the disciples of Jesus, continue to go and declare the blessings of God to all families, as the Holy Spirit makes more disciples in His power and in His love.
