Day of Atonement (OH)

Everything in the Book of Leviticus hinges on the Day of Atonement. To atone, is to make reparations for an offense or a crime. This is what the Day of Atonement was all about. The high priest would mediate this process for all of the people of Israel; that all the people’s sins (offenses/crimes) might be atoned for on this great day, providing the grace and mercy of the LORD in a conceivable way. In Leviticus, this was done by slaughtering a goat (Leviticus 16:15). The goat would take on the punishment that was due the people, atoning for their sins. Today, the Church celebrates the atonement of her sins through the blood of the Lamb; Jesus the Christ, once and for all, because Jesus put away our sin by His sacrifice.

Christ has atoned for your sin and given you life in place of the death you deserved. How will you live that new life out now?
