Taking communion seems to be just plain odd. We drink Jesus’ blood? We eat his body? Isn’t it just bread and wine? We see in Mark that Jesus promises special things through this meal: forgiveness of sin and strengthening of faith. But this meal is also a glimpse of eternity. It is a foretaste of the greatness to come in heaven where Jesus, our source of forgiveness and strength, will dwell before our very eyes.
