Fundamentalist in Ephesus (VC2)
Jesus commends the Ephesians for how they serve faithfully, endure hardship, have sound doctrine, and hate heretics, but His big criticism is they have forsaken their first love. Their love of sound doctrine has trumped their love for Jesus and for one another. What can we learn from the church at Ephesus about the relationship between sound doctrine and love?
Unifying Phrase: Quick to Judge, Slow to Love
- Set the stage for Jesus revealing Himself to John to write this Letter.
- Give a description of the City and Church at Ephesus
- Share the commendations that Jesus had for the Ephesians, followed by the condemnation.
- How could we become like the Ephesians: Pit truth against love; Pit Doctrine against People; Have Contempt instead of Compassion; Are Hypocritical in the call for others to repent; Make Jesus into a concept; Think we have Done Enough
