Love (VC)

They may be the most famous words Jesus ever said: "Love your neighbor as yourself." And while few would argue with the sentiment, most of us struggle with the actual practice. Where do we find the time? Or the courage? How do we connect with people who are so different than we are? All are good questions whose answers will come if we have first answered the question: why should I love my neighbor as myself?

Unifying Phrase: God’s love for us is beyond what we can fathom.

  • In our world, it’s common to love people who are like us or who offer us things we see as good.
  • We struggle to love people who we deem as different than us, more broken than us, or opposed to the things we believe.
  • When we grasp God’s true and deep love for us, there is no other outcome than us, in turn, loving others--all others.
  • In Peter’s words, Jesus has brought us into the role of showing others his goodness so they can glorify God.
  • What if this fall we showed love to our neighbors in tangible ways they couldn’t miss?
