After spending 40 days in the desert the vulnerability of Jesus to temptation was at its highest. Satan tempted Jesus in three ways: First, he tempted Jesus to use His divine powers for His own ends. Second, he tempted Jesus to avoid the sufferings of the cross, giving Him a shortcut to world domination. Third, he tempted the faithfulness of Jesus. Along the way, we will be tempted to use our gifts to meet our own ends, we will be tempted to avoid suffering for Jesus and our faithfulness will be tested.
