The Covenant Renewal (Study)
The Lord renews His covenant with Israel and promises to remain faithful to it for all future generations of followers, which means that, even today, you and I remain legally bound to His Covenantal Law; however, as a testament to His faithfulness, The Lord sent His Son, Jesus, to satisfy the righteous judgments and sacrificial demands on our behalf when we fall short of His Law.
Unifying Phrase: Yesterday, Today, and Forever
- In Genesis 17, The Lord had made the covenant that declared all of the descendants of Abraham would be His chosen people and that He would forever be their God.
- As inheritors of the covenant, we are still subject to the authority of its Law.
- Jesus Christ did not come to abolish the Law that was handed down to Moses.
- His death served as the atoning sacrifice that fully paid for your sinful infractions of that covenant, meaning that you are forgiven and are still a rightful beneficiary of the covenantal promise.
