The Shoes of Peace (VC)
Soldiers marching into battle needed shoes that brought protection and comfort. As disciples of Jesus, we must put on “gospel shoes” that will allow us to march wherever our Lord calls. The apostle John says, “He who says he abides in Him [Jesus] ought himself also to walk just as He [Jesus] walked” (1 John 2:6). Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, . . . and they follow Me” (John 10:27). Satan will try to place obstacles in our path, but in Jesus’ strength we can walk forward, following our Lord, obeying Him, and advancing the gospel.
Good Shoes matter!
- Review what Spiritual warfare is and why it matters. (James 4:7 could be used)
- Share why the right shoes were important for a Roman Soldier (See history Below).
- What does it mean to put on the shoes of peace:
- The shoes signify the need to always be prepared at a moment's notice to go out and announce the Good News, while also reminding us that we have a sure foundation on which we go (Romans 10:15-17, Isaiah 52:7)
- Good shoes allow us to walk on otherwise painful terrain without fear, so the preparation of the gospel of peace allows us to traverse the otherwise painful trials and tribulations of life without fear, knowing that what awaits is greater than anything we could possibly suffer in this world (Romans 8:18, John 16:33).
- What is the message of Peace we bring (Isaiah 9:7, Revelation 21)
